Our History YIHUI
Yihui exists for a reason: to protect our vulnerable forests and nature. As an environmental organization in Indonesia, we fight together to preserve the earth, human welfare, and the rich biodiversity within it.
The Indonesian Forest People Foundation (YIHUI) was established on June 22, 2022, and was officially recognized as a legal entity by the Indonesian government in December 2023 with a mission to fight for the conservation of tropical rainforests, which are vital for all inhabitants of the earth. Located in one of the countries with the largest tropical rainforest area in the world, YIHUI strives to preserve nature and the environment in Indonesia.
YIHUI was founded based on the strong principles of its founders to actively engage in efforts to respect human rights, protect and preserve nature as a form of respect for the rights of nature throughout Indonesia. Adherence to legal principles must also be implemented in concrete terms as a form of social justice for all Indonesian people in the nation's socio-political life. In addition, YIHUI also emphasizes the recognition of democratic values as the foundation for prosperity in the socio-economic life of the Indonesian nation.
YIHUI serves as a shared platform for finding solutions and increasing capacity for issues related to nature and environmental protection and conservation, particularly tropical rainforests in Indonesia. YIHUI was established to be a unifying force for various segments of society: indigenous peoples, students, academics, professionals, housewives, community organizations, social organizations, farmer/fisher groups, laborers, and various other professions in seeking solutions for the welfare of the Indonesian people through various preventive, protective, and conservation measures for nature and the environment.
YIHUI will work legally by influencing and involving itself in policy-making and can become a network connecting grassroots communities with the executive and legislative branches, from the center to the regions or vice versa, where there are currently various communication and information bottlenecks related to the prevention, protection, and preservation of nature and the environment throughout Indonesia.
YIHUI adheres to the principle that by taking harmonious, sustainable actions that care for environmental preservation and applying the principles of social justice, positive change can be brought about for society and the environment. YIHUI fights for the rights of nature and human rights, and involves various segments of society in carrying out all of its visions and missions.
